Once you have entered please ensure to read all key information below to make your MMJ Aquathon event experience, super fun, safe and memorable.

Please note: Additional mandatory Triathlon Australia one-day licence fee* per entrant/team applies if you are not a Triathlon Australia member. This is added during the online registration portal.

*fees are set and collected by Triathlon Australia.

One-Day Licence fees:

  • Kids Aqua: $0 free
  • Long-Short-Mini Aqua: $4.50
  • Fun Run: U18 $1, 18+ $2

HOW TO ENTER

Entry is open from 1 October annually via Race Roster a safe, global leading online event entry system.

Select the ENTER NOW button/s and follow the prompts*

*You will need to create an account if it is your first event on Race Roste platform.

IMPORTANT!!

1. Refer to event terms, fees, and discounts as outlined.

2. Select: Individual for Aquathon or Fun Run

3. Select: Create a Team: Only for Aquathon Tag Team (one swims/one runs)

4. You can create entry/s for someone else ie parent for child/ren or friends.

5. Donations and merchandise are optional

6. Mulitple entries: you can add multiple registration types at the one time

7. Teams – pay only the one sanctioning fee per team.

8. Teams: Create a Team name > select preferred distance > fill out the form as the TEAM CAPTAIN, nominate your leg (swimmer or runner), select the appropriate category/division and THEN SELECT ‘ADD ANOTHER PARTICIPANT” to enter details of the 2nd team member and their leg (swim or run) and the same category/division. One fee per team.

RACE NUMBERS

Why do I need a race number?

Participants electronic timing and race number is matched to their name > event > age > gender > division. This is crucial to ensure you are in the correct division and that we know which event you are in. DO NOT SWAP ENTRY: This forfiets the participant and can also wrongly award someone in a division.

When are numbers issued?

As entry is open to include race day, race numbers are issued at the last minute and via race roster email to the one you registered with on:

MONDAY 25th JANUARY 2027 from 6pm onwards.

Entries* after this time will recieve their number instantly once paid/registred.

Paid but cannot find your race number email?

Don’t panic! And no need to notify us (we can’t respond due to time constraints. sorry). Check in as normal. We will find your name and number and have your race number/time chip ready for collection or sort it out.

Check you have your payment receipt as a backup.

No one likes long ques and an our amazing volunteers are doing their best to process entry bibs/chips as fast as they can. Aim to arrive 75-60 minutes before your event

Osbourne Park- west side of finish line look for the tent and purple flag saying registration.

AQUATHON: The Old Court house – 1 Harbour street Wollongong. Straight across road from Belmore Basin on corner Cliff and harbour streets.

WHAT TO DO AT CHECK IN

    Fun run

    • Go to event day race bib collection at Osbourne Park between 6.15am and 7.40am
    • Collect your race number and pins and display it on the front of your torso.
    • Time chip is on reverse.
    • Keep run bib as a safe keep or discard appropriately after the event.

    Merchandise: Pre purchased merchandise is marked with person’s name and collected at registration. Strict NO SWAPS – NO REFUND POLICY as per terms.

    Aquathon

    • Go to Old Court House at time/s indicated
    • Follow signs/concierge directions
    • Inside: Individual / Team Aquathon. Go to table with your event sign marked
    • Outside on lawn: Late Entry and Event Changes
    • Tell the volunteer your SURNAME and SHOW YOUR RACE NUMBER EMAIL.
    • Teams: USE TEAM NAME / RACE NUMBER
    • You be be given your velcro time band. This is worn on your left ankle.
    • Head outside to collect your allocated swim cap to wear in the swim (mandatory)

    ADDITIONAL TEAM INFORMATION

    • Teams: Swimmers start with the time band  and swim cap. Time band swaps to runner (ankle) as a relay baton after the swim section.

    MERCHANDISE: Pre purchased merchandise is marked with person’s name and collected at registration.

    STRICT NO SWAP, NO CHANGE, NO REFUND POLICY as per terms.

    ENTRY CHANGES

      UNTIL 24/1/27 contact us via wollongongaquathon@gmail.com

      AFTER 24/1/27 you need to go to the registration area and see the ‘late entry/information’ table/TENT AT THE OLD COURT HOUSE.

      AQUATHON - timing chips

       Provided at registration

      • Timing chips record your time.
      • NO chip or In-correct placement = NO time = NO result/award
      • Must be worn on left ankle.
      • Ensure velcro strap is firm but not super tight – it’s your responsibility to place velcro on securely.
      • Teams: Swimmer begins with velcro, at change area simply swap velcro to runners left ankle!
      • Time chip must be handed back once you cross the finish. See containers and volunteers to assist.
      • Failure to hand back or lost time chip incurs $25 replacement fee by Multisport Timing Australia.

      Arriving at Aquathon by car

      Location: Wollongong Boat harbour (Central area) Cliff Road. Note access via cliff road from to harbour street is resticted due to road closures.

      VEHICLE PARKING

      Loads of nearby parking.

      • Marine parade/Endeavour drive, lighthouse road and 100’s of  parking bays!
      • Plus use nearby streets as Harbour st, Smith st, Corrimal st, Cliff Road and across Wollongong Central area’s.
      • Park and walk from North Beach (1km along blue mile),
      • City centre (lower/south end),
      • Parking stations near council library and Wollongong Entertainment Centre and Town Centre (600m-1.5m walk).
      • Beaton Park – loads parking spots. 1.2km walk.

      Arriving by train:

      BLUE-MILE 5 FUN RUN
      • START: 8AM
      • WARM UP: 7.45AM – START LINE BY RUN HAVOC
      • START AREA: FROM START OF THE ARCH BACK
      • Must have run bib, be paid and registered.
      • Fast runners at front, younger kids, walkers at rear.
      • BRIEFING: 7.55AM
      • 5km out and back along blue mile (KEEP RIGHT!! Until directed to move to the left by marshals and signs..follow the leader!
      • Fully supported by road closures, course marshals, first aid, water on course, finisher medals, and awards and prizes.

      AQUATHON SWIM STARTS AND KEY INFORMATION

      STAGGERED STARTS GROUPS OF 2!

      OFFICIAL SWIM CAP MUST BE WORN- NO CAP = NO RESULT = DISQUALIFICATION

      INSTRUCTIONS

      • All swims start on NORTHERN END shoreline of Wollongong Harbour CLEARLY MARKED
      • Marshaling Area – sand area near start as marked out- ARRIVE 20-30 MIN EARLY
      • SWIM WARM UP– most northern end ‘little harbour beach’ marked on map
      • SWIM SAFDETY BRIEFING; 10MIN BEFORE EACH START 
      • Form lines of two as per start times above.
      • Self seed, aim faster swimmers first.
      • Electronic timing starts when you cross start line .
      • 2-5 seconds between pairs.
      • Listen to swim referee for instructions
      • MOST events are split into age/gender order for safety

      Teams :

      • LAST GROUP/S – after individuals
      • Teams- runner will be directed to meet at the exit ofthe swim. LONG-SHORT-MINI sand to LEFT OF EXIT STAIRWELL
      • TEAMS KIDS: SAND – TO LEFT OF SWIM EXIT

      TIMINGS

      • 8.15am Long Aqua Male. – 900m two laps of set course
      • 8.35am- Long Aqua Female and Teams (plus any Mix/friend gender start..) 900m two laps
      • 9.05am: Mini Aqua – All ages/gender self seed start. Event timed but not awarded. ( 200m lap)
      • 9.35am Short Aqua
      • 10.10am Kids 10’s-13’s – 200m swim.
      • 10.30am Kids U10’s. Parents can swim with younger/slower swimmers back of pack.

       

      Swim Course Notes:

      • Each swim course is set before the start, with large visible markers.
      • Refer to swim course maps and on the day swim manager briefing
      • Swim course’s may change due to safety at event director discretion.
      • Safety is a priority
      • The harbour is closed to the public with Maritime Licence for exclusive water use and Maritime Officer patrol
      • 12+ experience water safety crew from North Wollongong SLSC
      • The warm up area is furthest small beach north of swim start (avoid swimming inside the course area).
      • Swimmers must adhere to all safety regulations and event referee instructions.
      • Parent/guardian can swim next to child U10.
      • No safety aids unless with written / prior approval
      • Wetsuits are optional (NO need to ask permission).

      Water conditions: 

      Water temperature is normally a very pleasant 21-22 degrees.

      Wollongong harbour is a relatively small recreational boat harbour, with swimmers, paddlers and also yachts and small fishing fleet. Whilst mostly sheltered from elements it can be exposed to wind, rain, and storm water as per most beaches, along with tidal movements. Generally rated as excellent to good water quality that can change due to weather. Swim will be on in near ALL conditions, but can be modified / cancelled if more very high-extreme risk as per event waiver and cancellation policy.

      AQUATHON TEAMS

      Teams complete the Aquathon as a relay of two -one person is the swimmer and one the runner.  Double the fun.

      • Same course as individuals
      • Swimmer starts with time chip on left ankle
      • CHANGE AREA’S: SWAP TAGS 
      • LEFT OF SWIM EXIT ON SAND
      • REFER TO MAP TO SEE WHICH EVENT, WHICH SWIM EXIT POINT- listen to announcer
      • Swimmer exits at ‘team change’ (Refer site map) and swap timer to runner left ankle.
      • If not worn on ankle or chip not placed on correctly – no time, no result, no award.
      • Both get finisher medals and go in barrel draw

      KIDS AQUA

      • Team runners meet your swimmer at the SWIM EXIT SAND AREA AS DIRECTED 
      • Teams: swimmer swaps, time velcro to runner left ankle
      • Parent U10’s you can swim/take part next to your child but leave to ‘back of pack’ to avoid other children
      • Parents – MUST BE OUTSIDE THE TRANSITION AREA .
      • Parents can help u8’s in change area only

      SWIM

      • *Please make sure your child/ren can swim the required distance unaided prior to registering to take part.
      • The swim is held in close proximity to shore within Wollongong harbour with loads of water safety. 
      • Two children at a time.
      • Weaker swimmers to the back.
      • Parents can support (swim) with their children.
      • No safety aids unless with permission (email event organiser)
      •  Loads of lifesavers on hand and cheering supportive crowd.

      Transition- that’s where you change from swim to put joggers on for the run!

      • Exit the swim, run ALONG THE SAND TO CHANGE AREA AS MARKED ON MAP.
      • TIP- Place a bright towel or something to remind you where you placed your run shoes/gear.
      • Parents – KEEP OUT 

      Run

      • 2KM INCLUDES SAND AND PATH
      • All kids run out FROM THE CHANGE AREA GRASS/SAND UP THE STAIRWELL (FROM LITTLE HARBOUR SAND AREA WHICH JOINS THE ‘blue-mile’ path – FOLLOW MARSHAL INSTRUCTIONS 

      • RUN ON RIGHT SIDE (WATERS SIDE ON WAY OUT) PASS A WATER STATION AT STATUE.
      • RUN ANOTHER 100M TO A SIGN AMND MARSHAL SAYING ‘KIDS TURN HERE’
      • AND PASS ANOTHER I98 FM BRANDED TENT – WATER STATION.
      • RUN BACK TO THE FINISH THE SAME WAY – KEEP RIGHT ROAD SIDE
      • EXIT RUN PATH TO CLIFF ROAD AT END OF BLUE MILE TO A FUN FAST 100M ROAD FINISH  TO THE ARCH
      • COLLECT YOUR FINISHER MEDAL
      • TEAM RUNNER- GET YOUR SWIMMER A MEDAL TOO
      • Get a drink or fruit and go to your parent/s/helper!

      AQUATHON TRANSITION AREA'S

      “Transition” is where you place your running gear / towel and change from the swim to the run.

      • Each event distance has a designated transition area.
      • Keep gear to minimal – just what your need to do the event. Towel, run shoes/gear.
      • Place run gear/towel on side/s of concourse or on grass. NOT MIDDLE!
      • Avoid personal belongings.
      • We cannot guarantee safety of personal items.
      • Remember where you placed your gear!  maybe use a bright towel or get a sight mark to remember.
      • NO PUBLIC IN TRANSITION
      • ONLY PARENTS WITH KIDS AGED 6 – 8 CAN HELP THEIR CHILD.

      What to do?

      • Show proof of your position (via online result at multisportaustralia.com.au).
      • Verfiy  result and collect medal/award.
      • We can only verify based on live results at the time.
      • Any dispute will be managed after the event. please contact the team via email.

      WEATHER, CANCELLATION POLICY, EVENT ENTRY TERMS, ENTRY SWAPS

      Aquathon is planned to run in near all weather and has successfully done so in past 25 years.

       

      • Plan for an ALL WEATHER EVENT.
      • Plan for the conditions- Warm, hot, wet, cold, windy and all in between.
      • Swim conditions – read swim section and BE PREPARED
      • Event director and safety officers can modify, change or cancel the event at any time without notice with no refund as per entry policy and terms
      • Event is sanctioned by Triathlon Australia, follows the risk protocols as well as local council, Police, and regulatory bodies requirements.
      • Due to the nature of the event and of the many months of planning, significant investment and event day resources there can be No re-run, and a firm no refund policy applies.
      • All participants are required to read, and accept the event waiver and cancellation policy at time of registration.
      • All participants must follow any Police or emergency directions and follow the event race director ruling.
      • NO athlete transfers
      • Swaps: distance or team member – Yes, see registration information or email by 24/1/26 wollongongaquathon@gmail.com
      • REFUNDS: < 28 days = no refund, + 28 days – see terms for 75/50/25% refunds
